• ISDO participates in “Using IT in promoting textile” conference

     ISDO staff participates in a joint event between Medressa II and its
Egyptian partner, Bayanet and the EUMEDIS project “Emed- TexNet” was held
in the Conrad Ballroom in the Conrad Hotel on the 16th of June, 2003 under “using IT in promoting textile”.

Medressa II

     Medressa II is funded by the European Commission, DG Information Society, under the IST programme. The main aim of MEDRESSA II is therefore to provide access for European SMEs in the Information Technology domain to emerging markets in the SMCs, facilitating Technology Transfer. It will strengthen
business co-operation by bringing providers (EU) and users/intermediaries (SMC) together at dissemination workshops in each of the seven SMCs involved (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus), 27 workshops in

EMED- TexNet

     EMED- TexNet is one of the EUMEDIS Egyptian contracted projects in the Industry, Innovation and Research sector. This project works on developing a Mediterranean and European textile and clothing portal focusing on promoting communication and co- operation between key players of the textile and
clothing sector and on creating an opportunity for those key players to export their products and share their experiences.

Participants in the event: EU and Egyptian technology providers, major
players of the Egyptian textile industry and participants in the EMED-TexNet project.

 Egyptian technology providers (governmental and private) as: Electronic Research Institute, Sahara Group, Forum for Industry and Technology (FIT), ITGEgypt.

 EU technology providers: IT Consult, Germany-EDI-Stage, France- LFB GmbH, Germany-E-Streams Ltd., Ireland-GLOBAL trade Consultant, Italy- Greek electronic commerce Centre, Greece.

 Egyptian textile industry: Egyptian Knitting& Ready Made Garments Company- Bishara for Fashion (BTM).

 Participants in EMED- TexNet project: CCIP, France- EDIAUDIT, France- and ERI, Egypt.

Just like most of the specialized events, this event was very focused.
About 20 presentations were displayed offering diverse info whether on IT implementation in the textile industry or on IT applications in general or IT and industry in general. ISDO Director Dr. Sherif Hashem gave a presentation titled
“ Overview of EUMEDIS initiative & projects”
