EUMEDIS projects are now ready to launch! H.E.
Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and
Ambassador Ian Boag, Head of Delegation of the European Commission in Egypt,
introduced the EUMEDIS and the contracted projects, during a press
conference which took place on 27 June from 9.45 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). Selecting
from among 175 proposals, the European Commission has contracted 14 projects
under the EUMEDIS initiative, and negotiations are proceeding for projects
in the reserve list which signature should take place in the following
months. The selected projects will focus on the following five sectors:
cultural heritage and tourism, education, electronic commerce, health care,
and research for industry development. The total budget allocated to the
initiative is €65 million. The projects’ implementation will take 2-3
years and will involve all EuroMed Partners. Fourteen
out of the sixteen contracted projects involve Egyptian partners: the second
highest level of participation among all 27 Euromed partners. Contributors
to EUMEDIS from various Egyptian entities, were invited to the event to
speak about their experience through the winning project proposals. The
event started by words given by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Nazif
and followed by H.E. Ambassador Ian Boag. Then, Dr. Sherif Hashem,
director of ISDO gave a comprehensive presentation that was titled “The
overview of EUMEDIS initiative and projects”. Finally, a Q&A session
was held afterwards for about 30 minutes. Journalists from both Egyptian and
foreign press managed to ask diverse questions concerning the budget
allocated for the projects, forecasts for the flow of work in the contracted
projects……etc. All
the participants at last were able to have a complete vision of the
initiative and the projects included.
